About Dr. Simon
I have been a psychotherapist for over thirty years, initially
working at a mental hospital and then a counseling clinic for several
years and am now in private practice.
Education: MSW, Ph.D., Post-doctoral group therapy certification.
Early on, I was privileged to be in a group therapy class with Irv
Yalom, MD, the acknowledged founder of the American group therapy
movement. I've been enthusiastic about this modality and have led
groups since.
I have taught clinical courses for individual and group therapists,
led institutes and workshops at national and regional annual
meetings of three group therapy associations and state clinical
societies. I'm an AGPA Fellow, a founding member of Certified Group
Psychotherapists, past-President of the local group therapy society.
For many years I was consultant to the group program at Family
Service Association, Palo Alto. I was on the faculty of the Fielding
Institute, Santa Barbara. I now provide consultation to group and
individual therapists. I am Adjunct Clinical Instructor in the Department
of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University and
co-lead a training group for psychiatric residents.
